Graduation Day

CCRM called today with the news that I have officially graduated!

I might not get a diploma, but this graduation means more to me than anything. After years of fertility clinics, I am now being released to the care of an OBGYN! I can hardly believe the day has come. They said the heartbeats were looking great, a little slow, but that can be expected with twins, so they don't require another ultrasound before they release me. My hormone levels look great and CCRM has officially taken me off all my medication. The Zofran they gave me is lessening the morning sickness, although I'm still feeling fairly rough. But at least I am now able to eat, which is good news because these babies hadn't been getting any nutrition for a while, so it's nice to get something in my stomach for them. And me!

I doubt I'll be enjoying graduation cake tonight, but we'll certainly be celebrating.

HAPPY GRADUATION TO ME!

YAY! Congratulations to ALL of you!

And just an FYI with the Zofran, it can cause constipation which can be it's own problem in the 1st trimester and contribute to more nausea. But still a wonderful drug. Ask for the ODT (oral dissolving tablets) too as sometimes the nausea is so bad you can't even swallow the pill! And I know way, way too much about this topic.

What a big day-congrats!

Also, quick note...Aunt Bea was smart to speak up about the side effects of Zofran. Maaaaajor constipation. Like rocks that don't move. It's freaky horrible. If you read the cancer boards from people using Zofran there you will see extensive discussion of this issue.
Happily, the magic bullet is a powder that used to go under the prescription name Gylcol or Glycal. I can't remember the spelling. It is now...ta-da...available over the counter but I can't remember the new name. Ask a pharmacist. It a powder with absolutely no taste and you take it once a day and the problem is solved. I worried that I would...ahem...not adjust back to my body doing the work after giving birth (I used Zofran heavily for almost 8 months) but you shouldn't worry.
Also, if the Zofran doesn't get you up to speed with the nausea, try adding Reglan at night. It does cause some fatigue issues and makes you sleepy so it worked best for me at night.
The cocktail of morning powder laxative/Zofran, afternoon Zofran and evening Zofran/Reglan plus a third anti nausea medication that I can't remember got me on my feet and functioning. If you aren't getting significant relief, keep experimenting.
I stressed about impact on the babies but here's the truth: with my first 2 children, I suffered through the nausea and threw up constantly and was constantly in the hospital for dehydration and with the third I was moved to a perinatology group that was aggressive about treating my nausea & the baby that got all the meds was several pounds bigger, healthy as a horse, and is 18 months old on Thursday. Trust the doctors on this..they will NOT give you anything that will hurt your babies :)
BTW, my last cycle at SRM was cancelled last Friday and I was able to get a phone consult with Schoolcraft this morning. I head to Denver for my work-up Jan 5. Thanks for all your great info on this blog. It helped me in a dark cloud of disappointment to make good decisions and move quickly.
